Special Events

The 2012 Versailles Gala, Mirage, is set to be the largest and most spectacular in OA’s history. Mark your calendar for Wednesday, June 6th for a glamorous evening at the Evergreen Brick Works, which The Globe and Mail deemed “a cultural beacon for Torontonians and tourists alike.” BlogTO wrote, “The authentic character of the Brick Works could single-handedly put all of Toronto's vanilla banquet halls to shame.” This historic site is the perfect landscape for a special event with an artistic flair.

About the Event

Armide
is a haunting, magical tale about unlikely lovers from two different worlds – he is a Christian knight leading his army to victory in the Crusades, and she is a Muslim warrior princess, fiercely determined to protect her homeland. Their mystical, moving tale has inspired the theme for Opera Atelier’s gala this year, and guests will be enchanted by the sensual charms of Mirage: The 2012 Versailles Gala.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, featuring scrumptious hors d’ouevres, an alluring silent auction, and a stunning $20,000 raffle item from Tiffany & Co. Award-winning Chef Neal Noble of Noble Culinary will host a marvelous feast, featuring Moroccan seared beef tenderloin, accompanied by an array of mouth-watering delights. Our live auction will treat you to luxurious items and experiences with acclaimed auctioneer Jay Mandarino.

Evergreen Brick Works
In 2010, Evergreen Brick Works was named by National Geographic as one of the world’s top 10 geotourism destinations, and is at the centre of Toronto’s industrial and architectural heritage. The transformation of the historic Don Valley Brick Works into Canada’s first large-scale community environmental centre represents a striking new model for the future—a heritage destination where nature meets innovation in the heart of an urban centre. The gala will take place in the Holcim Gallery, one of the most dramatic and largest areas on site.  The building features long tunnel kilns that at one point, produced over 25 million bricks per year during peak production.
