Why a Season of Heroes?
July 29 2026
We may associate heroism with the demigods of myth and legend, but it is important that we do not, in our admiration, divorce ourselves from the heroic in the everyday.
The heroes in Opera Atelier’s 26/27 season overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and can become a catalyst for all of us to strive for heroism in our own lives. Operatic masterpieces like Charpentier’s The Descent of Orpheus and Handel’s The Resurrection remind us that we share DNA with the heroes we admire, who provide examples of courage, loyalty and sacrifice.
Our season’s heroes wrestle with questions we still ask ourselves every day: How do we find courage? What is worth fighting for? How do we remain true to ourselves in the midst of conflict?
Opera Atelier’s unique approach to historically informed performance brings these stories to life through breathtaking music, dance, design, and storytelling.
We invite you to join us on a hero’s journey. Share with us what heroism means to you.
