Free Opening Night Performances
For the 2024/2025 season, school groups get access to Opera Atelier’s productions on opening night …for free! This initiative allows students and educators alike to enjoy a staged run-through of the show, and witness a part of the rehearsal process!
Details:
- Suitability: The recommended ages for each Opera Atelier show can vary. Please reach out for specific information about each show
- Availability: Each group can receive a maximum of 50 tickets. Space is limited, and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Chaperones: We ask that each group provides one chaperone for every 15 students in attendance. Please note that the intention of this program is for the students/school to come and enjoy the performance as a group. Additional families members and friends who wish to attend a performance can inquire about discounted tickets for a regular performance instead.
To participate in the Free Opening Night Performances program, please send an email to moao@operaatelier.com.
Classroom Resources
Behind the Curtain:
A Resource
This 23-page resource is a great workbook for students to get introduced to the behind-the-scenes process of producing an opera. It can be used as a standalone project or as supplementary material for attending Opera Atelier’s Making of an Opera program, and gets updated with new pages every season. Have an idea for new activities or pages? Send us an email and we can add it to the existing collection!

Illustrated Study Guides
Since 2022, Opera Atelier has commissioned Illustrated Study Guides to help bring opera to present day and to engage with younger audiences. Written by Jessica de Bruyn and illustrated by Meredith Wolting, these comic-style books offer a synopsis of the plot of our most recent productions, as well as the historical context about the composer and the original story or production. These resources are also interspersed with QR codes that link to additional resources and include a page of discussion points on the back cover.
