About the School

A unique ballet school housed in the historic St. Lawrence Hall, the School of Atelier Ballet offers instruction in ballet and historical dance that is affordable and enjoyable for both the aspiring professional and recreational dancers of all ages. Instruction is provided by professional dancers in a caring, creative atmosphere with convenient class schedules.

The School of Atelier Ballet also offers summer programs in which students study various forms of dance, with a focus on baroque and ballet repertoire. All of our students enter the School of Atelier Ballet (SAB) through an assessment by the director and are provided with an individual placement.

To learn more about our director, Jeannette Lajeunesse Zingg, C.M., you can find her biography here.

I love Opera Atelier for so many reasons. Their School of Atelier Ballet and its programs like Dance Through Time (now know as Doors Open) provided me with so many wonderful opportunities, and Jeannette’s instruction helped give me the tools and technique I needed to launch my professional dance career. I’ve spent the past eight years dancing with a ballet company in Chicago, and currently perform as a guest artist with Opera Atelier. Seeing my friends from Opera Atelier perform here in Chicago at the Harris Theater in 2018 was a wonderful treat, and so breathtaking. I look forward to the day we will all dance together again.
